Voice acting agencies: Do you have them?
I’ve noticed a lot of people on site hire the services of voice acting agencies, some even get commission for the work we get for the voiceover. We also get a lot of people being referred by voice acting agencies to our site and a lot of people doing so off their own back even though they are part of a voice acting agency. How many of you are with agencies? How do you like it? Taking into account what I just mentioned then voice acting agencies are obviously popular, but are they enough? If a voice acting agency was enough to keep you busy all the time then you wouldn’t be coming to us. Do those of you that use them as well as us do so for scheduling reasons or maybe price negotiations?
What has been your best experience with a voice acting agency? What has been your worst? Do you prefer how a play to play site operates or do you find voice acting agencies the thing for you?
Perhaps the voice acting agencies are perceived as being more proactive in searching for work and getting your name/reel out there? We do a lot of pavement pounding too, mostly calls and emails, special offers to ad agencies or production companies who hire a voiceover, spending on google ads, SEO work to raise the profile of the members page and anything else we can think of that might help, just so you know
That’s it really, I just wanted to get some feedback on your thoughts about voice acting agencies and your experiences with them, good or bad, funny or dull, lets me in on another stream in the industry and may enlighten me into a few new methods if I’m lucky.

I have been voice acting for a few years now and despite the fact I get work I STILL have not managed to find an agent. I just get the same ‘books are full’ or ‘we have someone that sounds like you’ responses…and that is if you ever get a response.
So for me I would love to share my experiences of being represented but I can’t because I’m not. Interested to hear what others think though and whether people are getting more or less work in the current economy.
Hello,
I have an agent in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The agency is called The Rock Agency. I’ve been with them since Dec. of 2011 and have received 4-5 auditions, but have not been chosen for a gig….yet. So although I haven’t booked anything yet through an agent my experience thus far has been favorable.
I’ve learned that there are many different “legs to the table” as far as voiceover is concerned when it comes to income. Agents, pay to play sites and your own networking and marketing. When I analyze the gigs I’ve booked thus far the great majority of them have been through my own networking and marketing efforts (emails, phone calls, meeting people in person). However, I feel that it takes a combination of things. It is also important to build relationships with people and businesses you believe your voice would be a good fit for and then to see how you can help them.
